Sorry to have to be the one that points this out, by watching those vignette videos of The Undertaker and Triple H saying that they’re the only ones left in the World Wrestling Entertainment from the Attitude Era, they lied. There’s; William Regal, The Big Show, Mark Henry, Kane, Chris Jericho (even though he left twice), Christian (even though he left once) and Lilian Garcia (even though she retired for two years and came back).
William Regal was the first bare-knuckle fighter before the like of Wade Barrett. The Big Show, Mark Henry and Kane gave the likes of The Great Khali a chance to come in and wrestle. Chris Jericho was the first and EVER Undisputed Champion EVER in the world of wrestling and one of the skilled promo givers EVER. Christian one of the celebrated and decorative World Tag Team Champions (with Edge) to grace the squared circle (along side The Dudley Boyz, The Hardy Boyz, The Steiner Brothers and Harlem Heat). Lilian Garcia gave the likes of other women to be a ring announcers. There won’t be a Christy Hemme and a SoCal Val if it wasn’t for Lilian.
Sorry to have to rant like that, just got frustrated with those two being so self-righteous and self-centered with their heads up their own asses thinking they’re the only ones left from that Era. They don’t give others from that Era their dues.
So, maybe they should end those careers as well after WrestleMania 28, so they can be accurate and actually end the Attitude Era. Didn’t the Attitude Era end in 2001?
SOO, yeah.
I don’t think they mean it as though they’re the only people from the attitude era
I think they mean they’re the two remaining main eventers from the attitude era
one could put jericho on that list to some degree
but big show, mark henry, kane, christian, etc weren’t
though ultimately wwe bullshits all the time anyway
I think WWE’s current strategy of trying to guilt trip the fans into liking Cena is a little pathetic. Cena went from “I don’t care what the haters think of me.”, to “Please, please, like me!”. Its a really poor last ditch effort to get people to cheer him. And for those of you who don’t know how to differentiate between kayfabe and real life, they’re intentionally making The Rock look somewhat boring, hypocritical, and repetitive. That’s because they don’t want the entire Sun Life Stadium audience booing Cena out of the building on April 1st.
Trust me, Cena calling The Rock out on having his promo written on his wrist wasn’t “a shoot”. Its all part of the show. The Rock is supposed to look like the bad guy, and we’re supposed to feel bad for cheering for him. That’s WWE’s goal because that’s the only way they can have the crowd split 50/50 at WrestleMania. The Rock isn’t a heel by any stretch of the imagination, but unless we’re reminded of what a terrible person he is every week, come WrestleMania the entire audience is going to be 100% behind The Rock. I think WWE’s long term goal is that they want all of the fans who boo Cena to have a change of heart and see the error of their ways, but that’s just not going to happen. If anything, that’s going to cause us to dislike him even more. If they want us to cheer for Cena, he’s going to have to be the one that has a change of heart. Not us.
This isn’t aimed at anyone in particular but this is just something that should be said. Some people say that they are big wrestling fans but the thing about it all is, why do they target or in other words ‘watch’ just one promotion and nothing else? I understand that World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) is the biggest wrestling promotion out there but why just watch just one promotion and let’s face it, WWE doesn’t provide much wrestling than it actually should it’s more of comedy than it is with wrestling. Yes wrestling promotions should provide both comedy and wrestling, but the word ‘wrestling’ is what matters the most. If those people were actual wrestling fans, then why don’t they watch TNA Wrestling also? I ain’t saying this because I am a big TNA fan than I am a WWE fan but it’s the almost the exact same thing. Wrestling isn’t about who can make better ratings it’s just the whole ‘watching wrestling’ concept that matters the most. People say ‘Oh I don’t watch TNA because they can’t book anything or they are only second behind WWE so they don’t matter or TNA is just filled with WWE rejects’ those people in my mind are idiots. I watch both promotions because I AM an actual wrestling fan and even though WWE in my opinion doesn’t provide alot of great wrestling matches these days, I still watch it anyways because I am a FAN of professional wrestling. Who cares about what either promotion provides, watch it because you GREW into becoming a wrestling fan. Both promotions have their goods and bad’s so more people should actually watch BOTH promotions if you’re actual wrestling fans.
Just sayin’.
Firstly, I’m a WWE fan. I’m in England, so I don’t have much access to any othe rkind of wrestling. I get TNA, and on occasion I’ll have it on in the background, but here’s why I don’t watch it;
They have great wrestling. That’s no lie. Their talent is very good. But their booking is just atrocious. People get thrown from storyline to storyline all of the time, and sometimes the stories don’t even make sense. If there was a meter on talent-storyline variance, the talent would be 8/10, but the storylines would be 4-5/10. Where WWE talent would be 7/10, and the storylines would be 7/10 too. They’re usually more consistent too. The storylines in TNA, along with their fickleness with talent stances, are the primary reasons I don’t enjoy it.
Also, to my knowledge it’s a 2 hour show? But the ratio of wrestling, at least whenever I watch it, is far less than WWEs. Where WWE may have an interview, then a match, then a promo, then a backstage segment, then an interview again, TNA seems to have an interview, a promo, a segment, an interview, part of a match, a promo, the rest of the match, an interview. (fictitious example)
And I liked that TNA would create their own talents. They’d work with ROH to get indy guys, and work with NJPW and whomever to get good guys noticed, but when they began hiring former WWE guys, it seemed like they took priority. Flair, Angle, Hogan, Hardy etc, they all just came in and took the top spot, which I didn’t find fair on those who had worked in TNA for all those years.
Being a product of the post-attitude era wrestling, WWE has always had that pizazz with their overall appearance, which I favour too. TNA looks good. I enjoy the blue. But WWE looks better.
So, it’s not that I’m saying “omg TNA suck because they can’t book and they take old WWE guys and they’re second best so they don’t matter”, it’s that TNA aren’t as good because their booking doesn’t compliment their talent, they started focusing more on established names rather than continuing to make their own, and they have less on-screen action.
If you want to pick up more trash on the side of the highway, than make some amends, you should donate some more time, maybe tell kids that exactly what you did isn’t right. But I’m also a realist and I know that none of these things will happen, because Chris Brown isn’t a man.
“I never intended to include Chris Brown’s name in one of my tweets to start some sort of controversy or to gain publicity or anything like that. And now that he’s throwing accusations my way about using steroids, I feel the need to reply, so please allow me to retort;
I’m a lifelong proud drug-free straight edge individual. So Chris and I come from two completely different worlds. I don’t have a manager, I don’t have a bodyguard - I don’t need a bodyguard - I don’t have an assistant. I have no need for a PR team to tell me what to tweet and when to delete tweets, and I don’t hit women. Period. You don’t hit women. In my world, women are to be revered and respected, and I firmly believe that in this life there are consequences and repercussions for people’s actions, and I don’t think Chris has paid for what he’s done. Picking up trash on the side of a highway does not make amends for repeatedly striking a woman in the face and sending her to a hospital.
So Chris wants to throw stones my way now, and I say that’s fine, but put some gloves on and get in the ring. I will choke you out and I will make you feel as weak and as powerless and scared and alone as any woman who has had the misfortune of knowing a sad, cowardly little boy such as yourself. And all proceeds can go to a women’s shelter of my choosing. If you wanna pick up more trash on the side of a highway and make some amends you should donate some more time, tell kids that exactly what you did isn’t right.
But I’m also a realist and I know that none of these things will happen because Chris Brown isn’t a man. That’s fine, I just know that some day, somewhere, somehow, somebody will put Chris Brown exactly where he belongs. And that honestly doesn’t have to be me - I’d just really like it to be.”
What’s your relationship with Cody away from the ring? You requested this match, right?
Response:
Mah boy Dusty and I came up in the WCW era where I was a 5 time 5 time 5 time WCW champion. Dusty said something to me a long time ago and I ain’t got no beef wit’ Cody cause he’s mah boy. I did a Saturday show once and I was the first match out. I was flyin’ wid da greatest of ease and I went out and I tore the roof off up in here and Dusty told me, ‘They won’t put you out first no more.’ That right there told me a whole lot about how Dusty Rhodes felt about me and we was on each others fave fives. I was tight with Goldust, too. … And now you see the li’l rhodes. I really like Cody and I ain’t got no beef wit him. He’s mah boy. But to actually go out there with Cody, awwwwwwww, it’s going to be an honor and it’s going to be great kicking his butt.
Translation:
Dusty Rhodes [Cody’s father] and I came up in the WCW era. Dusty said something to me a long time ago and I felt this about Cody actually. I did a Saturday show once and I was the first match out. I was a green kid and I went out and I wrestled and Dusty told me, ‘They won’t put you out first no more.’ That right there told me a whole lot about how Dusty Rhodes felt about me and we became really close at that point. I was really close with [Cody’s half-brother] Goldust, too. … And now you see the third generation, Cody Rhodes, the next kid. I really like what Cody has done in the past few years in the WWE. He has grown so much. But to actually go out there with Cody, it’s going to be an honor and it’s going to be great kicking his butt.
Is TLC a last hurrah for you? Or do you see yourself still wrestling for a while?
Response:
This is my last hurrah. I really understand that this is about the young guys like Cody Rhodes. It’s about those guys taking it to the next level and flying wid da greatest of ease. But if I can help them then shucky ducky quack quack they’ll be future Hall of Famers like me and mah brother Stevie Ray, dawg. But as for me wrestling full time, I can’t see that happening. I’ve got 2 more kids for mah fave five and I’m lovin’ dis.

But if I can help them make that transition to becoming superstars, future Hall of Famers, that’s what I’m here for. But as for me wrestling full time, I can’t see that happening. I’ve got twin babies and I’m content with this stage of life.
You’ve been in this business for a couple of decades and in that time you have seen the sport have peaks and valleys. What do you think the state of wrestling is right now?
Response:
We’re in a down stage. We’re in a slow season. The sport of wrestling has always been like that. But awwwwww here we go again. Our young guys are really picking it up and really seeing what entertainment is all about: giving the crowd exactly what they want to see.

John Cena is a new breed of heel. He’s not the traditional, generic, lying, cheating heel. He’s evil because he represents the establishment and censorship. He’s self righteous with his hustle, loyalty, respect and baby kissing schtick. He’s the opposite of an underdog (like Punk described it, he’s The Yankees of pro wrestling). He is invincible and seemingly flawless which makes it impossible for anyone to relate to his character. We keep begging him to change, and he responds with another one of his cheesy self righteous speeches about how he’d rather be a role model for little kids. We keep wishing that he’ll show an edgier side, and he keeps coming to the ring in gaudy T-shirts with inspirational phrases on them.
Cena is one of the few great heel characters that works the way its supposed to. WWE doesn’t have to tell us to boo him. He doesn’t need to act like he’s pure evil or insult the audience to get them to dislike him. He’s naturally unlikeable.
With Punk being the top merchandise seller in WWE, Cena could have turned heel right there.
And let’s face it, if he turned heel, he’d get a better reaction than he does now.
The match itself was incredibly mediocre. It was just the novelty that Rock was back that made it watchable. Otherwise it was just stand-offs and Rock/Cena bickering.
And I’m so glad CM Punk won. I just don’t enjoy Del Rio.
Also, I half expected Zack Ryder to say he had gotten enough signatures to have a US title match, forcing Ziggler into a 3rd match of the evening. That would’ve been hilarious.
In terms of SmackDown! heels, I am certain that many will share the opinion that Christian vs Orton is boring now. A Christian v Sheamus feud would be nice for the title.
For other heels, I’d like Barrett to be pushed for an opportunity. It’s a shame Cody looks too small to be a WHC, but even seeing him in some kind of opportunity would be nice.
Both Barrett and Rhodes are fantastic wrestlers with incredible characters, both of whom could be very decent champions, even if they may not look like it.
For faces, Sheamus and Orton seems to be all there are, but I’m hoping that Bryan’s losing streak will have a more colourful outcome than “turn heel in anger”.
I’d like the MVP losing streak treatment, where he just gains sympathy and makes his next win something special.
If they are set on Bryan turning heel, SmackDown will need another top face or two first, just to keep the numbers even. But Bryan’s heel turn should take effect after he cashes in his briefcase imo. Then people have a reason to tune in and see the champion tell everyone he did it without their help, and how their support didn’t help him, or whatever.
So to summarise,
Barrett and Rhodes would be a nice addition to the main event scene, despite their unchampionesque appearance.
Sheamus would be nice in the title hunt once more.
